From Source Terranes to Basin Evolution (STroBE): Geologic Evolution and Paleoclimate Studies in the Northern Cagayan Valley Sub-Basin

Faculty: Jillian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio, D.Eng. & Betchaida D. Payot, Ph.D.

The general objective of the project is to investigate the sediment source and depositional history of the sedimentary rocks in the northern portion of the Cagayan Valley Basin. Specifically, it seeks to: (1) determine the provenance of sedimentary units in the northern sub-basin of the Cagayan Valley Basin; (2) examine the paleoenvironment and tectonic setting of deposition; (3) establish the timing of the magnetic, volcanic and depositional events in the area; and (4) interpret the tectonic history of the northern Cagayan Valley Basin.

This research addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals for Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
